I have been an administrative intern for the last year while I am working on my master's degree. Part of this process allowed me to be part of a night where we interviewed for new substitutes at our district sub fair. At first, I thought I was just going to sit next to the assistant principal and observe him as he interviewed the candidates. Then, when we get there, a lot more people showed up than expected and they asked me to conduct interviews on my own. It was something I had never done before and I was a little nervous but I knew I needed to be confident and act like I knew what I was doing. So, one by one, I sat and went through the interview questions with the candidates. At the end of each interview I had to rate each person so that our human resource department would know if they needed to check resources or not. It was easier than I thought to know if those interviewing were genuine or not in their responses. As they answered my questions, I kept thinking, "Would I want this person in my classroom if I were out?" That really helped me know whether or not they were quality subs. Overall, it ended up being a great learning experience and I enjoyed meeting new people.
Being a instructional leader is important and having quality subs is a big deal. I love our commitment to quality staff at Life Schools!!
